The aim of this thesis work is to combine analytic philosophy with visual culture studies, mainly using Arthur Coleman Danto’s theories of art. I have analyzed the Dantian problem of indiscernible objects by broadening this issue to other fields (philosophy of history, paradox of fiction, theories of emotions). Subsequently, I have made a comparison between verbal and pictorial metaphors, focusing on the real epistemic contribution of this kind of tropes in Danto's thinking. Lastly, I have suggested an unusual connection between pictures and rhetoric, that is to say the link between Titian's Poesie and the so-called Renaissance Art of Memory.

Abstract
The aim of this thesis work is to combine analytic philosophy with visual culture studies, mainly using Arthur Coleman Danto’s theories of art. I have analyzed the Dantian problem of indiscernible objects by broadening this issue to other fields (philosophy of history, paradox of fiction, theories of emotions). Subsequently, I have made a comparison between verbal and pictorial metaphors, focusing on the real epistemic contribution of this kind of tropes in Danto's thinking. Lastly, I have suggested an unusual connection between pictures and rhetoric, that is to say the link between Titian's Poesie and the so-called Renaissance Art of Memory.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
